In the Presence of the King of Glory

June 30, 2019 Speaker: Rick Negley Series: Psalms

Scripture: Psalm 24:1–24:10

In the Presence of the King of Glory

(Psalm 24:1-10)

1. The Message of the Bible in One Chapter

God is the Creator and Owner of all (vv. 1-2).

All that God created was good.

We were created to enjoy fellowship with God and others. All have been separated from God through sin (vv. 3-4).

Sinful humanity cannot approach a holy God.

Queen Esther knew that no one could approach the king.

The High Priest could only enter before God yearly. God came in Christ to rescue and redeem us (vv. 5-6).

God took on human flesh and took our punishment.

He who knew no sin became sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21). We may ascend the hill of the LORD through Christ.

Jesus ascended the hill of Calvary to go to the Cross. Those who seek God by faith will receive blessing.

They will be declared and ultimately made righteous. In Christ, God has shown us the greatest love.

God allows us to enjoy making much of Him forever. The King of glory will come to restore all things (vv. 7-10).

He will award the crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8).

2. Two Questions that Demand an Answer

Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? (v. 3)

How can we stand in the presence of the King of glory?

None of us has clean hands or a pure heart.

There is none who does good (Ps. 14:1, 3; 53:1, 3).

All we like sheep have gone astray (Isaiah 53:6). We have all lifted our soul to false gods or idols.

No one seeks for God (Romans 3:11). Who is this King of glory? (vv. 8, 10)

This King is the Creator and Owner of all. He is the Almighty God and Commander of angel armies.

We could not know this King apart from God’s revelation.

How Shall We Respond?

We must allow the King access to all of life. Let Him be Lord. We must seek God above every other person or thing.
